“Labour Party Distances Itself from Plateau By-Election Boycott, Confirms Participation”

The Labour Party (LP) has officially disassociated itself from the decision made by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Plateau State chapter, urging political parties to boycott the Saturday rerun election. In a statement signed by Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, the party clarified its stance, confirming its active participation in the rerun election.

The statement asserted the LP’s independence and rejected any obligation to comply with what it termed a “ridiculous decision” by IPAC to discourage political parties from taking part in the election. The LP emphasized that the legal disqualification of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from participating in the rerun elections was based on established irregularities, a decision upheld from the High Court to the Supreme Court, aligning with the laws of the land.

Expressing appreciation for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for adhering to the legal framework established by the courts, including the Supreme Court, the LP urged the people of Plateau State to disregard IPAC’s decision. The party encouraged citizens to turn out in large numbers to vote for Barrister Gyang Zi for the Senate and Daniel Asama, the LP candidate for the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency. The LP’s commitment to participating in the rerun election signals its dedication to the democratic process and the rule of law.
