Ondo 2024: PDP Rejects Ajayi’s Campaign Committee List

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the campaign committee list issued by the party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Agboola Ajayi. Ajayi, through his media aide Mr. Sam Ogunmusi, announced the appointment of some party chieftains as members of the campaign committee on Monday.

The statement named Dr. Eddy Olafeso, a former National Vice Chairman (South West) of the party, as the chairman of the campaign council.

However, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kennedy Peretei, issued a counter-statement rejecting Ajayi’s appointments, stating that the party had not yet constituted any campaign committee. Peretei emphasized that the announcement was against the party’s constitution.

“The announcement by one Samuel Ogunmusi appointing persons to coordinate the campaigns of Agboola Ajayi for the November election is not only embarrassing but a violation of the PDP Constitution (2017 as Amended). Articles 46(1) and 40(1)(a)(b) and (c) do not permit such announcements coming from individuals not known to the party. To such an extent, all the supposed announcements are null, void, and of no effect,” the statement read.

Peretei added, “Our party is an organised party and guided by the rule of law. At the appropriate time, appointments for the local campaign council will be made public.”

The PDP and 16 other political parties are set to contest in the Ondo State governorship election on November 16. Campaigns across the state have already begun.
