House Minority Caucus Calls for Release of Nnamdi Kanu

In a unified move, 180 members of the House of Representatives Minority Caucus have called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu from custody. The motion was initiated by Rep. Obi Aguocha, who represents the Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South Federal Constituency. During a meeting in Abuja, the minority caucus of the 10th House of Representatives unanimously adopted this appeal.

The Minority Caucus consists of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 115 seats, Labour Party (LP) with 35 seats, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with 19 seats, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with 5 seats, Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 2 seats, Young Progressives Party (YPP) with 2 seats, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 2 seats.

In his address, Rep. Aguocha emphasized the need for the caucus to take a definitive stance on Kanu’s detention and to seek a political solution for his release. He underscored the importance of resolving Kanu’s case for national peace, stability, and unity. Aguocha called for immediate and strategic engagement with relevant stakeholders to advocate for a peaceful and political resolution to the matter, highlighting the potential benefits of dialogue and reconciliation over prolonged legal confrontation.

Aguocha also noted that this decisive stand on Kanu’s issue followed his recent visits to former President Muhammadu Buhari and the successful mobilization of 50 colleagues across all parties, including the southeast caucus of the National Assembly. The Southeast Governors Forum has also joined in calling for Kanu’s release.

“This call to action by my colleagues serves as a reminder of the critical role that legislative bodies play in fostering peace and stability in the nation,” Aguocha stated. He remains committed to championing initiatives that promote justice, equity, and harmonious coexistence across Nigeria.
