Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, recently visited Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P. This visit follows his earlier meetings with Peter’s brothers, Jude and Paul Okoye, amid an ongoing family feud.
The rift between the Okoye brothers escalated when Paul accused his twin, Peter, of filing a petition against him with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). However, Peter clarified that his petition was solely against Jude, concerning the alleged diversion of company funds.
In an effort to mediate and resolve the conflict, Obi personally visited the homes of the brothers.
Meanwhile, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, has set strict conditions for signing new artists to his record label, Fire Department Inc. During an Instagram Live session, he expressed concerns over the sense of entitlement some Nigerian artists develop once they gain fame, often claiming they no longer need a record label.
Rudeboy revealed that prospective artists seeking to join his label would need to meet specific requirements, including providing guarantees like landed property and having their parents co-sign a binding contract. Additionally, he stated that any artist caught smoking would face a ₦10 million fine.
He emphasized, “Some people just believe they’ve outgrown record labels. My demands are clear: bring landed properties, your parents must sign. The day I catch you smoking anything, it’s minus ₦10 million. That’s why when people ask me when I’ll sign new artists, I say I don’t know.”
