Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed strong confidence that the party can secure control of all 36 states in Nigeria if they meet their strategic goals. Ganduje made this statement during a meeting with the leadership of the Kano State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Thursday.
Ganduje highlighted the party’s current momentum and its preparations for upcoming elections. He expressed optimism about reclaiming Edo State, which was previously governed by APC but was lost to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) due to internal conflicts. He stated, “We believe we will be able to recover Edo State. It was an APC state, and despite losing it, we are confident about regaining it.”
Regarding Ondo State, Ganduje noted that it remains under APC control, despite challenges following the death of the former governor. He mentioned that the party successfully conducted primaries and resolved the issues that arose.
Looking ahead, Ganduje emphasized that winning Edo would increase APC’s control to 21 states out of the 36 in Nigeria. He also mentioned the upcoming Anambra election, where the party is aiming to make inroads into a state traditionally governed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Ganduje argued that the South-East geopolitical zone, which includes Anambra, has experienced internal divisions and marginalization, and the APC plans to address this by winning in the region.
He said, “The South-East zone is claiming marginalization, but we believe this marginalization is largely self-created. Our goal is to start with Anambra and work towards gaining more states in the region.”
Ganduje’s statements reflect the APC’s strategic focus on expanding its influence and control across Nigeria’s political landscape.
