Edo Residents Deserve Leaders Who Prioritize Their Well-being – APC Chieftain Olele
Julius Olele, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo, has expressed that the people of Edo State deserve leaders who will prioritize their well-being over political agendas. In an interview with Tana Aiyejina, Olele, also known as Jojo, discussed the upcoming governorship election, the plans of the APC candidate Monday Okpebholo, and the state of governance under the current administration.
Election Mood and Campaign Concerns
With the Edo governorship election just days away, Olele noted a palpable sense of eagerness and preparedness among voters. People are engaged in the democratic process with hopes for improvements in healthcare, education, and the economy. Despite this, he expressed concern over the negative tone of the campaigns, which have been marked more by personal attacks than issue-based discussions. Olele emphasized the need for a focus on real issues and a commitment to peaceful, transparent elections.
APC’s Vision Under Monday Okpebholo
Olele highlighted the distinct qualities of APC’s candidate, Monday Okpebholo, who he believes offers a blend of honesty, leadership, and understanding of Edo’s challenges. Okpebholo’s plans include significant reforms in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture. He aims to enhance educational quality, improve healthcare access, boost infrastructure development, and revolutionize agriculture with mechanized farming and agro-processing zones.
Assessment of Governor Obaseki’s Tenure
Olele’s assessment of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration revealed mixed results. While acknowledging efforts in education through the EdoBEST program, he criticized the uneven progress in infrastructure, particularly in rural areas. Olele called for a new vision that addresses these gaps, with a focus on inclusivity and tangible results.
Governance Continuity and PDP’s Actions
Regarding governance continuity, Olele defended Okpebholo’s intent to build on the achievements of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, arguing that it is crucial to continue successful policies while addressing shortcomings. He also addressed concerns over the PDP’s refusal to sign the Peace Accord, suggesting it could lead to increased tension and disruption in the election process.
Combatting Corruption
To tackle corruption, Olele proposed several measures, including empowering anti-corruption institutions, promoting open governance, implementing e-governance systems, and ensuring strong oversight by the State House of Assembly. He stressed the importance of leadership by example and public education on demanding accountability.
Leveraging Federal Relationships
Olele expressed confidence in leveraging the APC’s relationship with the federal government to attract more federal projects and investments to Edo State. He outlined plans to align state priorities with federal objectives to secure funding and support for essential projects.
In summary, Olele’s interview underscores the APC’s commitment to addressing Edo State’s challenges through a focus on practical solutions and effective governance.

Caught in the middle: Ortom’s silent dance between two camps.
There are growing questions about where Mr. Samuel Ortom, a former Governor of Benue State and a prominent figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), truly stands politically ahead of 2027.
Ortom was a key figure in the divisions within the PDP before the 2023 general elections and was widely associated with support for Mr. Peter Obi, who finished third in that contest. More recently, however, he has publicly expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The latest discussion began after a visit by Mr. Peter Obi to Benue State. Reports indicate that a vehicle said to belong to Ortom was used to receive Obi at the Air Force Base airport in Makurdi. It is not clear who authorized the use of the vehicle, and Ortom has not commented publicly on the matter.
During the same visit, Obi was reportedly prevented from travelling to Yelewata, where he had intended to condole with families affected by violence. Obi’s team attributed the blockage to supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The Governor’s spokesman, Sir Tersoo Kula, denied any involvement by the Governor. He suggested the incident may have been staged to damage the Governor’s reputation, or that it could have resulted from disagreements within Obi’s own support base.
Ortom has not issued a statement clarifying his position on the 2027 elections or on the vehicle in question. Attempts to reach him were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
