On September 25, 2024, Mr. Seyi Tinubu donated essential drugs aimed at improving maternal and child care at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abuja. This initiative underscores his commitment to enhancing healthcare in Nigeria.
Represented by Mr. Ojeje Onimisi during the donation ceremony, Tinubu highlighted that the gesture reflects his dedication to giving back to the community and supporting the nation’s healthcare sector. He stated, “His generosity will undoubtedly make a significant impact on the lives of many Nigerians.”
Tinubu expressed urgency in covering all 60 targeted hospitals before the year’s end, paving the way for the second phase of the project next year. FMC was selected for this initiative due to its reputation for providing quality healthcare services.
“This drug bank is intended for tertiary healthcare institutions to ensure these drugs are effectively utilized,” Tinubu added, emphasizing the primary goal of reducing maternal and child mortality.
Dr. Benson Cole, the National Coordinator of the project, noted the critical need for improved healthcare access in Nigeria, citing high infant and maternal mortality rates. “Seyi Tinubu is not happy with the infant mortality rate that we have. The maternal mortality rate is the fourth largest in the world,” he remarked.
Dr. Bioku Muftau, Head of Clinical Services at FMC, received the donation on behalf of Chief Medical Director Prof. Saad Ahmed. He expressed gratitude for the gesture, affirming that it would significantly enhance the facility’s capacity to provide quality care, especially for indigent patients in maternal and child health services.
