Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has pledged to upgrade the state’s health training institutions with state-of-the-art equipment to enhance educational quality and produce highly skilled professionals. This commitment was made during a reception honoring the outgoing Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar Faruk.
Governor Aliyu identified the lack of modern teaching tools in state-owned health institutions as a significant barrier to effective education aligned with global best practices. He stated, “We cannot continue with obsolete teaching equipment in our health training institutions when technology is moving fast in the area of digital and state-of-the-art equipment.”
He emphasized that improving the health sector is a top priority for his administration, which is part of the nine-point smart agenda for the state.
In a significant move to bolster the healthcare workforce, the governor announced the recent recruitment of over 800 nurses and midwives, who had been awaiting employment for the past nine years. This recruitment aims to address the urgent need for skilled personnel in Sokoto’s healthcare system, ensuring effective service delivery.
Governor Aliyu also acknowledged Dr. Faruk’s substantial contributions to the development of the state’s School of Nursing during his tenure. “I want to assure you that this administration would tap from the wealth of experience of the outgoing Registrar for the benefit of our state,” he affirmed.
As part of the reception, the governor presented Senator Aliyu Wamakko’s ‘Award of Excellence’ to Dr. Faruk in recognition of his meritorious service to the country and Sokoto State.
