The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has announced that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to acquire 50 new aircraft between December 2023 and 2026. This development was disclosed during the second biannual meeting with Branch chiefs and Air Officers Commanding (AOCs) held in Abuja on Thursday.
Abubakar emphasized that this acquisition is part of the NAF’s ongoing transformation efforts, which have already seen the successful induction of 12 aircraft over the past year. He hailed this as a significant milestone, marking a period of growth and modernization that the force had not witnessed in recent times.
“These are exciting times that demand innovative thinking, resilience, and dedication,” Abubakar stated, encouraging officers to maintain high levels of professionalism and integrity as they contribute to the NAF’s evolving mission.
The Air Chief praised the leadership within the force and the efforts of personnel involved in key operations, particularly counterinsurgency and anti-oil theft missions in various parts of the country, which have yielded notable results. He expressed confidence in the ability of NAF officers to rise to future challenges as the force prepares for a new era of enhanced airpower.
The CAS also noted that the upcoming aircraft deliveries are part of a broader effort to bolster national security and enhance the NAF’s operational capabilities in line with its strategic goals.
