Kwara State government has described the ‘O to Ge’ revolution that swept away the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) from power in the 2019 governorship election in the State and replaced by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a movement “by the people of Kwara and not by any individual or group of people”.

The state government was reacting to a press conference by the Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM) where Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, the spokesman for KRM and also a chieftain of the ‘O to Ge’ movement, alleged that the ruling APC administration in the State did not effectively manage the success of the popular movement.

A statement by Bashir Adigun, Special Adviser on Media to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said: “O to Ge is a revolution by the people of Kwara and not by any individual or group of people.

“The people showed their love, support and endorsement for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq through the 2019, 2023 General elections and the just concluded Local Government Elections in all of which they overwhelmingly voted for the administration in 2019,2023 General elections and recently the 2024 Local Government election .

“We wish to state that Akogun Oyedepo and his Ilk have traveled this path before and the outcome of this Gulliver politics is well Known to the people of Kwara

“The people of Kwara should be aware that the gang up is driven by their failure and frustration not to have pocketed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and prevent him from focusing on providing dividends of Democracy and positive impact on the people of Kwara State .

“The same group misled some of its members to join the Social Democratic Party SDP ahead of the 2023 General Elections with incalculable negative consequences to those members .
Akogun, their leader abandoned them in the SDP to reaffirm his membership of the All-Progressive Congress and pledged his loyalty to Governor AbdulRazaq .
How many times must Akogun deceive the gullible in the public space ,claiming to have parted ways with the Governor only to find him singing praises of the same Governor as attested to by circulating video clips in the public space ?

“Many Kwarans may not be aware of the grouse of Akogun and his fellow travelers. They are certainly annoyed because of the Governor’s unbending principle against using the people’s wealth for personal aggrandizement as practiced by the displaced dynasty .

“They are dissatisfied with Kwara Social Investment Programme empowering the poor and the vulnerables in the State instead of them cornering the people ‘s wealth to themselves.

“The so called movement is frustrated because Governor AbdulRazaq has excelled beyond reasonable doubt in all sectors ; education , health , poverty alleviation , infrastructural renewal , Security , food production , prompt payment of salaries , pension and gratuity for workers at both State and LG levels and the pensioners unlike the dehumanizing experience of the PDP era.

“Akogun and his colleagues are day dreamers and should be educated that , the people of Kwara State , President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and God cannot be deceived about Kwara and unprecedented achievements and infrastructural transformation under the dynamic leadership of Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq in the past five and half years and greater prospect for Kwara unlimited prosperity under continuity of AbdulRazaq’s leadership far beyond 2027.”

He said the administration is focused not only on the volume of investment attracted but also on its impact on employment, skills development, technology transfer and local sourcing.

The President also praised NBC’s continued expansion of production capacity, including new production lines in Oyo and Kano states, describing such investments as vital to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving policies, infrastructure and regulations to support businesses, while urging the private sector to complement government efforts through investment, innovation and job creation.

Caught in the middle: Ortom’s silent dance between two camps.

Published

There are growing questions about where Mr. Samuel Ortom, a former Governor of Benue State and a prominent figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), truly stands politically ahead of 2027.

Ortom was a key figure in the divisions within the PDP before the 2023 general elections and was widely associated with support for Mr. Peter Obi, who finished third in that contest. More recently, however, he has publicly expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The latest discussion began after a visit by Mr. Peter Obi to Benue State. Reports indicate that a vehicle said to belong to Ortom was used to receive Obi at the Air Force Base airport in Makurdi. It is not clear who authorized the use of the vehicle, and Ortom has not commented publicly on the matter.

During the same visit, Obi was reportedly prevented from travelling to Yelewata, where he had intended to condole with families affected by violence. Obi’s team attributed the blockage to supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The Governor’s spokesman, Sir Tersoo Kula, denied any involvement by the Governor. He suggested the incident may have been staged to damage the Governor’s reputation, or that it could have resulted from disagreements within Obi’s own support base.

Ortom has not issued a statement clarifying his position on the 2027 elections or on the vehicle in question. Attempts to reach him were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
