Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ali Madaki, has accused former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, of orchestrating a plot to remove him from his position. In an interview with Daily Nigerian, Madaki dismissed the attempt as baseless and driven by loyalty to Kwankwaso rather than legitimate party processes.
He claimed that the alleged move, championed by the “sacked national leadership” of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), lacks legal backing. According to Madaki, party rules stipulate that such changes can only occur with the majority consent of party members within the House of Representatives.
“Order 7, Rule 14 of the House Standing Order states that changes to leadership positions must be decided by the majority of party members in the House,” Madaki emphasized.
The lawmaker further argued that the signatories to the purported removal letter are not recognized members of the NNPP due to recent court rulings. He pointed out that a court judgment had declared the national leadership of the NNPP under Kwankwaso illegitimate, effectively barring Kwankwaso and his allies from representing the party.
Madaki stated, “Those who signed the letter are not members of our party. The chairman and his NWC members have been sacked by a recent court judgment. Based on the ruling, Kwankwaso is not a member of the NNPP.”
He criticized the lawmakers backing the plot, accusing them of “shamelessly dancing to whatever music Kwankwaso plays.”
Madaki expressed confidence in the legitimate NNPP leadership, led by Chief Boniface Aniebonam, to address the issue appropriately. “I am unperturbed by their propaganda. The legitimate leadership will soon clarify the situation,” he said.
The controversy highlights ongoing divisions within the NNPP following recent court rulings and leadership disputes.
