2027: Kwankwaso Can’t Contest on Our Platform – NNPP Declares

Published

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has ruled out the possibility of its former presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, contesting for the presidency on its platform in 2027.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, clarified that Kwankwaso no longer represents the NNPP and cannot use its platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu or any other candidate in the next general election.

This clarification follows comments by Buba Galadima, who claimed that Kwankwaso would remain in the NNPP and contest the 2027 presidential election under its banner. Galadima also dismissed reports suggesting that Kwankwaso planned to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating they would stay in the NNPP “until the whistle is blown for 2027 politics.”

However, Agbo Major firmly dismissed these claims, stressing that both Kwankwaso and Galadima had long been expelled from the party for anti-party activities and no longer speak for or represent the NNPP.

“The NNPP severed ties with Kwankwaso and Galadima after the 2023 elections. They cannot use our platform for any political ambition,” Agbo stated.

He explained that the party’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Kwankwasiya Movement, led by Kwankwaso, ended shortly after the 2023 presidential poll.

“We will not allow Kwankwaso to return to the party. His leadership brought internal crises, unnecessary litigations, and an attempt to forcefully change our logo to the Kwankwasiya symbol. It took court intervention and INEC’s action to restore our original identity after their kangaroo convention in Abuja,” Agbo explained.

He accused Kwankwaso of seeking another easy presidential ticket, as he allegedly did in 2023, but declared that such an opportunity would never happen again.

“Kwankwaso cannot thrive in any political party where he does not control the leadership. His ambition to take on President Tinubu is dead on arrival,” the chairman declared.

While acknowledging Kwankwaso’s constitutional right to seek elective office, Agbo emphasized that the former candidate should pursue his ambition independently, without dragging the NNPP into his political battles.

He also revealed that the NNPP is already in talks with other potential aspirants, and the party’s 2027 presidential candidate would emerge through due process and constitutional procedures.

“We will not hand out our presidential ticket to anyone on a silver platter, especially not someone who betrayed the party’s trust,” Agbo added.

He urged Nigerians to disregard any anti-Tinubu or anti-APC statements made by Kwankwaso and his associates, stressing that they do not reflect the NNPP’s stance.

“The NNPP believes in constructive criticism of governance, not personal attacks or baseless political wars. We advise Kwankwaso to form his own party for his agenda. The NNPP has moved on and will not be dragged into needless controversies,” Agbo concluded.

Political Turmoil in Taraba: Allegations of Tribal and Religious Blackmail Rocks Likely Consensus Candidacy

By Daniel Mtindiga, Jalingo

Mr. Hamidu Bakoji has leveled serious allegations against the likely consensus candidate for the Ardo-Kola, Karim-Lamido, and Lau Federal Constituency, accusing incumbent lawmaker Honorable Mohammad Audu Lauya of exploiting religious and tribal sentiments to manipulate State and party leadership despite alleged incompetence and poor human relations.

Bakoji claims Lauya lacked a solid structure before becoming a Member of the House of Representatives and failed to build one during his three-year stay in the NASS. He warns that re-nominating Lauya would be a mistake, potentially costing the APC the seat. He appointed out that some people close to the leadership are more comfortable with him as a light-weight politician to put off heavyweight like Sani.

The controversy deepens with Bakoji urging the governor to watch and analyze closely the voting patterns come 2027 general elections and observe the tribal and religious voting pattern, predicting the Wurkum-Muslim community may reject the governorship candidate if a Muslim candidate is on the ballot.

“This isn’t democracy,” Bakoji declared, criticizing the imposition of unpopular candidates. Further intrigue surrounds the alleged sidelining of former Acting Governor, Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi, rumored to be eyeing a Senate seat for Taraba North.

Bakoji claims the state and party leadership are using Lauya to block Danladi, a Wurkum Muslim, who is growing desperate. The situation is adding layers of religious and tribal tension to the power struggle.

As tensions rise, observers question whether internal party machinations will backfire, handing victory to opposition forces in the upcoming elections.
