Arrests: 78 Suspects Nabbed In Abuja hotspots
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of criminal elements, the FCT Police Command has intensified raids on black spots and criminal hideouts, leading to the arrest of 78 suspects across several divisions.
The coordinated operation, which took place on Monday night and extended into the early hours of Tuesday, covered notorious locations and uncompleted buildings across Jikwoyi, Apo, Nyanya, Karu, Wuse, Kubwa, Dutse-Alhaji, Mpape, Karmo, Utako, and Kurudu Divisions.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the operations, carried out simultaneously around 11:40 p.m., were in response to rising public complaints over increasing incidents of robbery, drug use, and cult-related violence in parts of Abuja’s satellite communities.
During the raids, police operatives arrested dozens of suspects, mostly young men loitering in suspicious circumstances around abandoned buildings and secluded areas. Recovered from some of the suspects were substances believed to be Indian hemp, as well as other incriminating items.
A senior officer involved in the operation, who spoke under anonymity, said the raids are part of the Command’s proactive strategy to deny criminals safe haven and curb the spread of street-level crimes in the city.
“Most of the arrests were made in known flashpoints where we’ve had reports of petty theft, illicit drug use, and assault on residents. Screening and profiling of the suspects are currently ongoing, and those found culpable will be prosecuted,” he said.
Residents of areas like Karu and Dutse-Alhaji, where some of the raids occurred, have expressed relief and commended the police for their timely action. “We’ve been living in fear. These uncompleted buildings have become hideouts for criminals. We’re happy the police are finally doing something about it,” said Musa Ibrahim, a trader in Karu.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
