PDP intact, formidable in Kwara, national level: Saraki

Stephen Olufemi Oni, Ilorin

Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has convened a closed door meeting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, with stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over innuendos regarding the ongoing political issues concerning coalition of political parties in the country.

Addressing party members in his GRA residence, Ilorin, before journalists were asked to leave the meeting, Saraki said that the event served as an opportunity to speak with the people as family members, adding that he never sent any party member to the coalition ADC because the PDP at both the stare and national levels is intact and formidable.

He said: “I’m here as a democrat, whose people have asked to clarify a number of issues about the party. You have all been observing what’s been happening at the national level of our party and you want to know the situation. I owe you that to come down and explain to you.

“Number two, you’re all aware of innuendo that has been given about what I know and what I don’t know. I believe I must come and let you hear from the horse’s mouth, so you can know true position of the matter.”

Speaking earlier, the PDP Chairman in the state, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, told the party members that the PDP is not part of any coalition in the country.

Mohammed said that the PDP is intact in Kwara state, adding that, “PDP is the only opposition party in the country. There’s no other opposition. And PDP has nothing with coalition and we will win in next general elections”.

The state party Chairman also informed the party members of the forthcoming NEC and the state congress of the party, saying that aspirants to state executive council would obtain nomination forms for N1m, while ward executives would pay N20,000 each.

“It’s N1m for state executive chairmanship aspirants and N20,000 for a ward membership executive”, he said.

On the continuous voter’s registration exercise starting August 18, 2025, Saraki told the party members to take the exercise seriously.

He charged the party members to continue to lead in party activities, just as he commended them for their support during the party’s last membership revalidation exercise.

End.

By Daniel Mtindiga, Jalingo

Mr. Hamidu Bakoji has leveled serious allegations against the likely consensus candidate for the Ardo-Kola, Karim-Lamido, and Lau Federal Constituency, accusing incumbent lawmaker Honorable Mohammad Audu Lauya of exploiting religious and tribal sentiments to manipulate State and party leadership despite alleged incompetence and poor human relations.

Bakoji claims Lauya lacked a solid structure before becoming a Member of the House of Representatives and failed to build one during his three-year stay in the NASS. He warns that re-nominating Lauya would be a mistake, potentially costing the APC the seat. He appointed out that some people close to the leadership are more comfortable with him as a light-weight politician to put off heavyweight like Sani.

The controversy deepens with Bakoji urging the governor to watch and analyze closely the voting patterns come 2027 general elections and observe the tribal and religious voting pattern, predicting the Wurkum-Muslim community may reject the governorship candidate if a Muslim candidate is on the ballot.

“This isn’t democracy,” Bakoji declared, criticizing the imposition of unpopular candidates. Further intrigue surrounds the alleged sidelining of former Acting Governor, Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi, rumored to be eyeing a Senate seat for Taraba North.

Bakoji claims the state and party leadership are using Lauya to block Danladi, a Wurkum Muslim, who is growing desperate. The situation is adding layers of religious and tribal tension to the power struggle.

As tensions rise, observers question whether internal party machinations will backfire, handing victory to opposition forces in the upcoming elections.
