Since assuming office, Mr. Osigwe has demonstrated extraordinary resolve in reviving the NBA’s historic role as the guardian of justice, the defender of democracy, and the voice of the voiceless. Elected on a campaign to tackle corruption at the Bar and on the Bench, Mr. Osigwe has not only lived up to his promises but surpassed expectations.

Reviving the Role of the Bar

Upon assuming office, Mr. Osigwe wasted no time restoring the NBA’s traditional role of holding leaders accountable and promoting the rule of law. Under his leadership, the NBA has consistently challenged unconstitutional actions, arbitrary governance, and human rights abuses.

Repositioning Legal Education

A key milestone of his presidency was repositioning the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE). With the introduction of a mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) regime, every Nigerian lawyer must now earn annual CPD credits aligned with global standards.

Championing Human Rights

Mr. Osigwe has reignited the Bar’s passion for public interest advocacy. Under his leadership, the NBA has spearheaded campaigns against arbitrary arrests, electoral malpractice, and anti-democratic legislation. He established regional litigation committees nationwide to strengthen this mission.

Technology and Innovation

Perhaps one of his most groundbreaking contributions has been embracing technology and innovation. Launching the Digital Annual Practice License and digitizing the Letter of Good Standing marked a new era in transparency and efficiency within the profession.

Empowering Young Lawyers

The legal profession’s future lies in its young members, and Mr. Osigwe has shown a deep commitment to their growth and success. Through the Nigerian Bar Association–Young Lawyers Forum (NBA-YLF), his administration introduced tailored mentorship, support programs, and funding initiatives designed to address the challenges faced by young lawyers.

The 2025 NBA Annual General Conference, organized under his leadership, will be remembered as one of the most successful in the history of the Association. His reforms in legal education, human rights advocacy, technology, and mentorship have redefined the standards of our profession. More importantly, his fearless commitment to justice has restored the NBA’s image as the nation’s conscience.

As a human rights advocate and proud member of the Bar under his leadership, I am optimistic that his tenure will leave a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s legal landscape. He has proven that leadership is about vision, service, and sacrifice. History will remember him as a President who led the NBA to new heights of credibility, relevance, and integrity.
