Kwara state Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi has visited victims of fire incident at Kokeu compound, Isale koko, Ojagboro in Ilorin.
Conducting the Deputy Governor round the scene of the fire incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday one of the residents, Ibrahim Haroon, explained that the inferno started around two o’clock in the morning and lasted for hours before members of the community could put it out.
Another resident, Ayodeji Yusuf Amasa, who explained that he got a save our soul call about the inferno around 2 am, said they searched the internet for the contact details to alert State Fire Service.
Mr Amasa however, said that aside from property worth millions of naira including cash of about six hundred thousand naira, no life was lost. An aged man who was asleep during the fire outbreak was promptly evacuated, according to him.
The Deputy Governor, who was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Adisa Logun, empathised with the victims and gave an assurance that he would “properly brief the state Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on the unfortunate development to forestall recurrence of fire outbreak across the state generally.”
The Magaji of the compound appreciated the Kwara State Government for her concern and prompt action.
