Ten years after Dogo Nahawa attack, no prosecution yet, Stefanos Foundation

The night mares of the killings in Dogo Na Hauwa, Jos south LGA of Plateau state ten years ago by suspected fulani herdsmen has continued to torment inhabitants of village.

Ten years down the drain, the authority has not been able to effect any arrests of the perpetrators of the dastardly act which left over 200 people, most women and children dead and several others sustaining various degree of injuries with some still living with the horrific incident till date.

The government which has since adopted the community’s  original name of Dyemburuk, is a Christian inhabitant and efforts to put the midnight attack behind them was gradually gaining grounds.

The attack which took place in the early hours of March 7th 2010 left  the community and other neighbouring villages in pains and agony; especially the families of those who lost their loved ones in the attack.

And although the community seems to have moved on over the years, memories of the dead are still fresh in the community, especially with the mass graveside of the people killed in the attack.

According to a Christian foundation, the “Stefanos Foundation” on “19th June, 2019 alongside a team from 700 Club visited the community in order to ascertain the current situation of the survivors/victims of the 2010 massacre, and it was encouraging to see that the people are doing their best to move on in life”.

It added that it was “sad however to see that 10 years into this gruesome terror attack, Stefanos has recorded over 1,700 similar attacks on other communities in the 32 States of the federation, yet, no arrests have so far been made, nor has anyone been prosecuted. This is why it is sad now that terrorism seems to be on the increase and criminals of such atrocities seem to be emboldened in the most gruesome hate crimes.

“This also goes to explain the rise in security establishment outfits in some parts of the country, such as the Amotekun, whereby leaders are beginning to seek for means to protect their citizens against terror activities. Unfortunately, this goes further to weaken the trust on central security systems of the federal government by the general citizenry.

We continue to call on the government to rise to its responsibility and do the the needful on the part of security of its citizens so as to encourage national patriotism”, the foundation stressed in its newsletter.
