The Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Abbas Tajudeen has lamented against flood that affected parts of Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State calling for urgent measure to tackle the menace.
This was contained in a strong worded statement signed by
Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker which was made available to journalists in Abuja , on Wednesday.
According to the press statement, “the flood occurred around Kogin Mata and Tudun Muntsira, Chikaji area of Sabon Gari last Monday after torrential rainfall’.
Speaker Abbas further disclosed that the last Monday rain has destroyed property as well as rendered many residents homeless.
The Speaker while empathising with the victims of the flood, lamented that such an unfortunate incident happened at a time when people were making efforts to make ends meet under harsh economic circumstance.
He, therefore called urged for an urgent intervention to provide succour to the victims, urging them to stay calm while the government makes efforts to arrest and address their plight.
Meanwhile, the speaker also used the opportunity to call on the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to rise up and come to the aid of the flood victims at this critical time.
He equally urged residents of the affected areas and adjoining places to take precautionary measures and heed to advisory from relevant authorities on flood.
He further called for concerted efforts to address the menace of flooding in the country.
