Alleged Plot to Discredit: Gani Adams Denies Misrepresentation in Audio Clip

Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, has come forward to address what he perceives as attempts to undermine his reputation, asserting that his silence should not be misinterpreted as weakness.

Amidst a swirl of controversy surrounding an alleged audio recording, Adams has expressed his readiness to provide clarity on the matter, refuting claims of defamation contained within the contentious clips.

Following legal actions taken against him by Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, and Tayo Ayinde, Chief of Staff to the Lagos State governor, Adams issued a statement through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, condemning what he perceives as a concerted effort to tarnish his character.

In his statement, Adams highlighted his initial reluctance to engage publicly, citing interventions by prominent figures including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who sought to promote peace. However, he emphasized that recent developments have compelled him to address the situation.

Adams clarified that the disputed audio clip was a distorted and fragmented excerpt from a private conversation held in 2021 with a US-based acquaintance. He explained that the conversation, initiated by the individual in question, aimed at brokering reconciliation between Adams, Igboho, and others.

Addressing the contents of the recording, Adams stressed that his remarks regarding Igboho’s alleged involvement in the late Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige’s murder were speculative and not made in malice. He underscored that the conversation was intended to remain private and should not have been leaked.

Adams further accused Igboho of unlawfully accessing and disseminating the private conversation, labeling it as a breach of privacy and a deliberate attempt to defame him. He also clarified his remarks regarding Tayo Ayinde, asserting that any comments made about him were unsubstantiated rumors intended to remain private.

In conclusion, Adams condemned what he perceives as a campaign of character assassination orchestrated by Igboho and Ayinde, asserting that their actions represent a failed attempt to besmirch his reputation.
