Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, is facing allegations of mismanagement of state funds, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) accusing him of frivolous spending on thanksgiving events instead of prioritizing the state’s development.
Tony Okocha, the Rivers State Chairman of the APC, voiced these accusations during a press conference in Port Harcourt. He criticized Fubara’s administration, labeling it as “visionless” and expressing concerns over the lack of progress in the state during the past 10 months.
Okocha highlighted the governor’s alleged focus on organizing thanksgiving events across all local government areas of the state, describing it as wasteful spending. He emphasized the importance of governmental continuity and criticized Fubara for deviating from the road development plans initiated by his predecessors.
While acknowledging the continuation of certain projects initiated by former Governor Nyesom Wike, such as the ring road, Okocha lamented the absence of new road projects under Fubara’s administration. He questioned the relevance of investments in initiatives like the transformation of Songai farm and rehabilitation of the cassava plant to the overall governance and development of Rivers State.
The APC’s accusations underscore a growing dissatisfaction with the current administration’s priorities and allocation of state resources. They call for greater transparency and accountability in governance to ensure that public funds are utilized effectively for the benefit of the people of Rivers State.
