APC Crisis: NWC Rejects Ganduje, Favors North Central
Tensions escalate within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party’s governors clash with the National Working Committee (NWC) over ex-governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s potential candidacy for the national chairman position. The sudden exit of Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore from their leadership roles has triggered the power struggle.
Speculations have emerged that the Progressives Governors’ Forum, representing the party’s governors, has thrown their support behind Ganduje as Adamu’s successor. However, this move has led to divisions among party chieftains and NWC members who argue that the chairmanship should be reserved for the North-Central geopolitical zone, while Ganduje hails from the North-West.
Ganduje’s unexpected consideration for the position reportedly comes as a surprise to many, with influential figures like Governor Hope Uzodinma and others pushing for his candidacy to reconcile the party’s factions. Nevertheless, some party members express concerns that this move could disrupt the zoning arrangement and potentially alienate the North-Central region, which is entitled to the chairmanship according to prevailing agreements.
As the power struggle intensifies, the APC faces significant challenges in finding a unifying leader who can uphold the party’s founding principles of progressive politics. The situation remains fluid, with President Bola Tinubu’s intervention and response yet to be clarified.
APC Remains Cautious Amid Speculation Over Ganduje’s Chairmanship
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) maintains a cautious stance as speculation swirls about the potential candidacy of ex-governor Abdullahi Ganduje for the party’s national chairman position. According to some party officials, the news is mere speculation, and no official decision has been made.
Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, the National Vice Chairman for the South-East, clarifies that no concrete discussions regarding Ganduje’s candidacy have taken place during a brief NWC meeting. He suggests that decisions on party leadership are separate from the administration and legislature.
Deputy National Organizing Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, expresses surprise at the news and emphasizes that the next national chairman will be chosen through votes at a mini convention.
However, former Deputy Spokesman of the party, Yekini Nabena, expresses reservations about Ganduje’s potential chairmanship. He highlights the importance of a mini convention to decide the new chairman and criticizes the current APC NWC, suggesting that a flawed foundation could lead to ongoing internal strife.
Former member of the APC Board of Trustees, Garus Gololo, advocates for fairness in the selection process and calls for support for Tanko Al-Makura, a former Governor of Nasarawa State, as Adamu’s successor. Gololo believes that the North-Central zone should have representation in the position and questions the qualifications of Ganduje for the role.
As the speculation continues, the APC remains cautious and awaits further developments before making any official statements regarding the party’s leadership.

Pius Akutah’s Alleged Fraud at Nigerian Shippers Council Uncovered
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
