The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued an ultimatum to Mr. Osarodion Ogie, demanding his immediate resignation as the Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG). Failure to comply will result in “serious civil and criminal actions.”
In a statement released Thursday evening, APC State Chairman Jarrett Tenebe accused Ogie, who is the running mate to Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming September 21 election, of “dissipating and misusing the lean resources of Edo State for his private election campaign.”
Tenebe emphasized that Ogie’s position as SSG is a violation of public service rules, which prohibit public servants from using state resources for private purposes. He described this as unacceptable and an affront to the people of Edo State.
“By remaining in office while running as a gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Ogie is in violation of public service rules. He continues to earn a salary and other benefits as SSG while using official vehicles and government logistics for his campaign. This is a waste of taxpayers’ money and the very definition of corruption,” Tenebe stated.
He further added, “Mr. Ogie must resign immediately as his continued stay in office is a violation of all known rules of decency and ethics. No unelected public servant should be allowed to misuse public resources in this manner.”
In response, the State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, dismissed the APC’s allegations and ultimatum. Nehikhare asserted that Ogie could continue to serve as SSG until 30 days before the election, in accordance with the Electoral Act.
Nehikhare advised the opposition party to focus on informing the public about their candidate, Monday Okpebholo’s plans for the state if elected in the upcoming election.
