Arewa Youths Outline Priorities for Tinubu’s Administration

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has put forward a comprehensive five-point agenda for the administration of President Bola Tinubu. Yerima Shettima, the National President of the Arewa youth group, announced this in a statement issued on Tuesday.Shettima expressed his appreciation to President Tinubu for taking decisive action by dismissing certain high-ranking government officials and appointing Nuhu Ribadu as the National Security Adviser (NSA).

He lauded the selection of Ribadu as NSA, not only because of his previous role as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), but also due to his principled nature and zero tolerance for corruption. Shettima believed that this appointment would contribute positively to addressing the security challenges faced by the nation.

Regarding corruption, Shettima observed that President Tinubu’s actions demonstrated his commitment to confronting influential individuals in the country. He specifically mentioned the removal of Godwin Emefiele and Abdulrasheed Bawa as examples. Shettima also highlighted the need for individuals like Hadi Sirika, the former aviation minister, to be held accountable for the “last-minute scam” associated with the Nigeria Air project, demanding an explanation from him.In terms of the economy, Shettima urged President Tinubu to address the issue of states’ excessive reliance on federal allocations. He emphasized the need for state governments to take responsibility for generating revenue by implementing taxation measures.

“While our economy is currently in a dire state, the central government alone cannot sustain it. State governors should focus on developing their own resources within their respective states,” Shettima stated.

The AYCF president also advised the President to prioritize the growth of the agricultural sector and ensure its effective management. He encouraged the opening up of the economy, particularly by allowing agriculture to flourish.

Furthermore, Shettima urged President Tinubu to lift restrictions on land borders for imports and exports and instead enforce diligent customs and immigration practices to regulate trade effectively.
