Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, has announced that the Nigerian Army is making significant strides toward overcoming insecurity in the country. Speaking during his closing remarks at the recently concluded Chief of Army combined 2nd and 3rd quarters conference 2024 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Lagbaja highlighted positive feedback from various formations and commands.
“The conference allowed us to assess the implementation of our policies from the last meeting and refine our activities for the remainder of the year, especially as we approach the busy ember months,” Lagbaja stated. He expressed optimism, noting that while the security challenges are formidable, they are surmountable.
Lagbaja reassured Nigerians of the Army’s commitment to working alongside other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across the nation. He encouraged law-abiding citizens to continue supporting the government and security forces in their efforts to make the country safer and more prosperous.
He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of conference participants, praising their sincerity and enthusiasm. The Chief of Army Staff assured that the Secretariat has effectively documented the decisions made during the conference, which will be disseminated after his approval.
In a related development, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, represented by Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Uko Udom SAN, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) project in Nsit Atai – Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Governor Eno commended Lagbaja for this landmark initiative, which aims to provide quality, affordable, and secure housing options for soldiers. He emphasized that the AHOOAS project is crucial for enhancing the morale and well-being of the troops, a key focus of his administration.
Lt. General Lagbaja reiterated the significance of the AHOOAS project as part of his broader strategy to improve the quality of life for Nigerian Army personnel. He thanked the Akwa Ibom State Government for its support and collaboration in advancing this initiative.
Major General Joseph Omali, Managing Director/CEO of Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL), emphasized the importance of the AHOOAS project in addressing the housing needs of soldiers. He expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff and the Akwa Ibom State Government for their dedication to making the project a reality.
