Assets controversy: Absence of judge stalls AFAN’s suit against Kabiru Ibrahim-led NWC
Absence of Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, stalled hearing in a suit filed by All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) against Mr Kabiru Ibrahim and his dissolved National Working Committee (NWC).
Our correspondent reports that AFAN had, on May 11, sued Ibrahim and the dissolved NWC over alleged refusal to hand over association’s assets and property.
Counsel to AFAN, Modibbo Bakari, filed the suit before Justice Taiwo.
In the originating summon with number: FHC/ABJ/CS/322/2020, Bakari asked the court to stop Ibrahim-led NWC from parading themselves as executive members of the association.
While Ibrahim, the embattled national president, and his dissolved NWC are the 1st defendants, the Inspector General (I-G) of Police is the 2nd defendant in the case.
The lawyer wanted the court to determine whether by virtue of the established law of AFAN, the 1st defendants whose tenure expired in June 2018 still vested with powers to manage and run the affairs of the association.
Bakari sought: “a declaration of this honourable court that by the combined effect of Article 13.1 of the Constitution of the AFAN and Section 593 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1 Cap. C20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, the 1st defendants who were inaugurated in June 2013 had served their single term of 5 years which tenure expired in June 2018,” among others.
At the resumed hearing of the matter on Wednesday, Justice Taiwo was not in court.
The suit was number 12 of the list of 13 cases scheduled on the cause list.
The court registrar informed that the judge, who sat during the annual vacation of the Federal High Court, had proceeded on leave.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Federal High Court annual vacation, which began on July 27, ended on Sept. 28.
The court, however, fixed Dec. 15 for hearing in the matter.

Pius Akutah’s Alleged Fraud at Nigerian Shippers Council Uncovered
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
