Barr. Hamza Condemn , Uba Sani Hamza’s Unlawful Detention

The Nigerian Police Force has come under fire for the unlawful arrest and detention of Barrister Uba Sani Hamza, a legal practitioner who was apprehended on September 22, 2025, at the Norman’s Land Magistrate Court in Kano.
According to sources, Barrister Hamza was taken into custody by officers from the National Cybercrime Center without proper justification, sparking widespread condemnation from the legal community and human rights activists.
The arrest has been described as a blatant violation of Hamza’s fundamental rights to personal liberty, dignity, and freedom of movement, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.
Reacting to the incident, human rights activist Hamza Nuhu Dantani Esq. strongly condemned the police’s actions, demanding an unreserved public apology, adequate compensation for the harm suffered, and disciplinary measures against the responsible officers.
“The police’s conduct amounts to unlawful arrest, prohibited by Section 7 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and Section 36 of the Police Act,” Dantani said. “The courts have consistently condemned such practices, emphasizing that no citizen should be subjected to harassment or intimidation.”
The Nigerian Bar Association and Kano State Government have been urged to take urgent action to prevent future incidents of police abuse of power and protect the rights of citizens.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
