Christians Reflect on the Message of Good Friday Worldwide

By Milcah Tanimu

On Good Friday, Christians across the globe pause to reflect on the profound message of Jesus Christ’s sacrificial love, symbolized by His crucifixion for the redemption of humanity.

Rev. Dr. Arnfríður Guðmundsdóttir, Vice-President for the Nordic Countries at the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), emphasized the significance of Good Friday as a reminder of God’s boundless love, epitomized in the giving of His Son for the salvation of sinners.

In her message, Guðmundsdóttir likened the anguish experienced by Jesus on the cross to the human struggle with feelings of helplessness and the fear of abandonment. She urged Christians to acknowledge their vulnerabilities and express their reliance on God, even amidst moments of despair.

Drawing on Martin Luther’s analogy of God as a caring father, Guðmundsdóttir encouraged believers to vocalize their pain and lamentations, recognizing that God remains present and attentive, regardless of perceived silence or absence.

She underscored the importance of embracing vulnerability and trust in God’s unfailing love, echoing the message of Good Friday as a testament to divine compassion and victory over evil.

Amidst the observance of Good Friday, Christians are reminded to share the transformative message of God’s agape love, which triumphs over the darkness and challenges of the world.

Shalom.
