Cooking Gas Prices in Nigeria See Slight Decline

The price of cooking gas in Nigeria has seen a slight decrease, offering some relief to households struggling with high living costs. A recent market survey revealed that the average price of 1kg of cooking gas is now ₦1,350, though prices can vary based on location and cylinder size.

While the reduction is welcomed by many, there are calls for more significant price cuts to alleviate the financial pressure on families. Factors such as global market trends, the exchange rate, transportation costs, and seasonal demand fluctuations all influence the price of cooking gas.

Industry experts attribute the continued high prices to the depreciation of the naira against the dollar and logistical challenges within the country. As the festive season approaches, affordability remains a key concern.

Advocacy groups have urged the government to implement policies that encourage local gas production and improve distribution efficiency to reduce costs for consumers.

Current Cooking Gas Prices (per kg):

  • 1kg: ₦1,350
  • 3kg: ₦4,050
  • 5kg: ₦6,750
  • 6kg: ₦8,100
  • 10kg: ₦13,500
