A Federal High Court on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit filed against the EndBadGovernance protesters due to a lack of diligent prosecution. Justice Peter Lifu struck out the case after the 17 plaintiffs and their legal representatives failed to appear in court for the hearing.
The judge expressed surprise at the absence of both the plaintiffs and their counsel, which led to the dismissal of the suit. The case, brought forward by 17 Nigerians from the six geopolitical zones, claimed that the protests infringed on their fundamental rights, including freedom of movement, human dignity, the right to own property, economic, social, and cultural development, and the right to national peace and security.
The plaintiffs had sought a court order compelling the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Chiefs of Army and Defence Staff, and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to intervene and halt the protests, arguing that their rights were being violated.
However, with the dismissal of the suit by Justice Lifu, the legal challenge against the EndBadGovernance protests has come to an end.
