A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of Haruna Abdullahi, 27, in a correctional facility for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter. The court session, held on Thursday, was presided over by Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel.

Due to the court’s lack of jurisdiction, Abdullahi’s plea was not taken. Magistrate Emmanuel directed the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for further advice and adjourned the case to June 26.

The defendant, residing in Kinkinau, Kaduna, faces a charge of defilement. Prosecutor Inspector Chidi Leo informed the court that the incident occurred on May 3 at the defendant’s residence. According to the prosecution, Abdullahi lured the girl into his room under the guise of sending her on an errand, then proceeded to shut the door and defile her.

The alleged act violates Section 244 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
