The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has acquired 20 advanced Armour Personnel Carriers (APCs) to bolster Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity. Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information (DDI), disclosed this in a statement released in Abuja.
According to the statement, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, represented the Defence Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, during the handover ceremony. He presented the documents and keys of the 20 APCs to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa.
Kana commended the synergy among the military services and praised the decision to engage local manufacturers for the production of the APCs. He highlighted the benefits of this approach, including cost savings, job creation, and reduced dependence on foreign currency.
In response, General Musa expressed gratitude for the support from the Ministry of Defence and assured that the APCs would be utilized effectively to enhance ongoing security operations across the country.
The newly acquired APCs boast upgraded weapons and communication systems, enabling effective detection and engagement of adversaries from a distance. They are designed to facilitate seamless military operations, further strengthening Nigeria’s security apparatus.
These APCs were produced and supplied by an indigenous Nigerian company. Engineer Kola Balogun, the company’s chairman, affirmed their commitment to providing training for operators and offering after-sales services such as maintenance, spare parts, and repairs. Additionally, plans are underway to export these vehicles to generate foreign currency for the country.
