Nigerian disc jockey Oluwaforijimi Amu, popularly known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, has opened up about his battle with chronic kidney disease, a journey that included losing his sight and undergoing a successful kidney transplant.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka, the veteran DJ recounted how his health struggles began in 2020, disrupting his plans to explore life abroad.
Health Challenges and Recovery
Jimmy Jatt revealed that his health issues started after he decided to spend more time outside Nigeria in 2019. However, by 2020, he lost his sight, underwent surgery to restore it, and relocated to the U.S., where he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
“I was on dialysis in the U.S. for a while. Eventually, I returned to Nigeria and had a kidney transplant,” he shared, adding that the procedure was successfully completed in 2022.
Maintaining a Low Profile
After the transplant, DJ Jimmy Jatt kept a low profile to focus on recovery. During this time, he continued to DJ in America and Europe, eventually returning to Nigeria in December.
Dispelling Misconceptions
Addressing misconceptions about kidney disease, he emphasized that lifestyle is not always the cause.
“Lifestyle is not always the cause of kidney ailments. I’ve never smoked, and I stopped drinking alcohol a long time ago. In my case, it was caused by diabetes,” he explained.

Jimmy Jatt’s resilience and transparency about his health journey have inspired fans and raised awareness about kidney disease and the importance of early diagnosis.
