The Ekiti State Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security has forged a strategic alliance with Hello Tractor to bolster mechanized farming in anticipation of the 2024 planting season.
Dr. Nneka Enwonwu, the Country Managing Director of Hello Tractor in Nigeria, announced this partnership following the conclusion of discussions in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
Enwonwu stressed the significance of such collaborations, especially as more Nigerian states are prioritizing initiatives related to food security, youth empowerment, and job creation.
He expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting its potential to empower smallholder farmers and enhance farming efficiency through mechanization.
Enwonwu emphasized Hello Tractor’s commitment to partnering with states that are implementing innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions.
He underscored the importance of mechanization in agriculture, citing global standards that recommend 200 tractors per 100 square kilometers of arable land. However, countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Nigeria, lag behind significantly in tractor availability.
Hello Tractor has been actively working to bridge this gap by connecting smallholder farmers with mechanized services, digitizing operations, and managing over 3.3 million acres of farmland, benefiting over 1.1 million farmers in the process.
