By  Milcah   Tanimu

The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated an eight-man inter-ministerial committee to investigate the activities of private universities established in the last 15 years. The committee, led by Professor J.D. Amin, is tasked with probing degree certificate racketeering by both foreign and local universities in Nigeria. The move is aimed at sanitizing the education system and protecting the integrity of educational qualifications in the country. The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, emphasized that workers found with fake certificates, as revealed by the panel, would be sacked and face legal consequences. The committee’s mandate includes identifying illegal universities and reviewing accreditation processes to prevent re-occurrence.
