The federal government has suspended 13 students from Federal Government College (FGC), Enugu, following a bullying incident involving a gang assault. The incident, which occurred on November 7, 2024, was captured in a viral video showing a group of students attacking a day student in Senior Secondary 1 (SS1).
In response, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa expressed deep concern over the safety and discipline within the school. The Ministry of Education has directed the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) to collaborate with security agencies for a comprehensive investigation, which will also explore potential links to external groups.
To enhance security at FGC Enugu, the government has engaged law enforcement and reviewed existing safety protocols. Immediate actions have been taken to ensure the safety of students, while counseling and rehabilitation support will be offered to the affected students, promoting their reintegration into a positive school environment.
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a safe learning space across all federal schools and assured the public that further actions would be taken to restore peace at FGC Enugu.
