FG’s palliative rice: PDP wants Kwara govt to test consumption fitness

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state has asked the state government to carry out test on the 1,800 bags of rice it received from the Federal Government as palliatives, to ascertain its quality and consumption fitness for the people.
The party in a statement by its state publicity secretary, Tunde Ashaolu, said this becomes necessary in view of the fact that governors of Oyo and Ondo states had both rejected bags of rice donated to their states by the federal government as they were found to have expired and unsafe for human consumption.
It said: “It is based on this development we are asking the Kwara State Government to carry out due diligence and cross check the bags of rice given to it by the Federal Government, to determine quality of the products before distributing them to the people of Kwara.
“The bags of rice were reportedly seized by the Nigerian Customs Service and had been kept in store for long. Therefore, we can’t rule out the possibility that some of them might have expired or got infested.
“Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq must take a cue from both governors Seyi Makinde and Rotimi Akeredolu, and order an immediate check of all the bags of rice received from the FG to ensure that adulterated and poisonous rice are not distributed to Kwarans.”
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
