George Okoye, a former presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has dismissed the proposed merger among some opposition parties against President Bola Tinubu as futile. In a statement, Okoye asserted that while Tinubu’s leadership may not be perfect, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) holds the potential to offer a superior alternative.
Okoye, a former lawmaker in the Anambra State House of Assembly, urged the PDP’s leadership to address its internal challenges, stressing that this would pave the way for overall improvement.
He criticized the PDP’s current state, describing its leadership as complacent and lacking direction. Okoye emphasized that the key to the party’s success lies in resolving its internal issues rather than pursuing a merger with other opposition parties.
In assessing President Tinubu’s performance, Okoye acknowledged his efforts but highlighted the potential for the PDP to present a more compelling alternative. He emphasized the importance of credible leadership within the PDP, stating that once this is achieved, other aspects of the party’s functioning will naturally fall into place.
