Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has appointed transition committees for the 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ondo State, despite a court judgment nullifying their creation.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the governor announced the list of appointed transition committees for the LCDAs and the existing 18 Local Government Areas in the state on Thursday morning.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the governor’s actions, calling them “gross lawlessness” and “flagrant disrespect” for the court of law. In a statement signed by state Publicity Secretary Kennedy Peretei, the PDP said: “It is the height of lawlessness and impunity for Aiyedatiwa to appoint Committees for LCDAs that are non-existent in the eyes of the law. We advise the Governor to respect the laws of the land and stop embarrassing the people of the state with his actions that make us a laughing stock in the comity of civilized people.”

Previously, Justice Adegboyega Adebusoye of Akure High Court had nullified the creation of the 33 LCDAs by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration, describing them as “inchoate and unlawfully created.”
