Governor Radda’s Water Project Equipment Arrives Katsina, Installation to Commence Soon.

The Katsina State Government welcomes the arrival of critical equipment for the rehabilitation of Ajiwa Water Works, a key project in the Executive Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD CON, initiative to resolve the state’s water crisis and ensure access to hygienic water sources.

Receiving the equipment, on behalf of Katsina State Government, the Director of Urban Water Supply, Ministry of Water Resources, Katsina State, Engr. Kabir Ismaila noted, “Two 40-ft containers carrying 1 heavy-duty submersible raw water intake pump, 79 valves of various types and sizes, and 20 coupling fittings for raw water intake connection have been successfully cleared and discharged at Ajiwa Water Works.

This equipment, procured from AVK International of Denmark will be used to connect the Ajiwa Dam to the Water Treatment Plant and Barhim Reservoir.”

His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD CON, personally led an investment-seeking visit and constructively engaged one of the leading manufacturers of water hardware in February, 2024 at the AVK International Factory in Denmark, underscoring the administration’s commitment to this crucial project.

“The rehabilitation aims to address significant water losses, estimated at up to 30% along the pipeline, by replacing ageing valves that have been in use for over four decades.

This initiative is expected to substantially improve raw water supply to the treatment plant and ensure unhindered flow of water to the Barhim Reservoir for distribution to various households in Katsina,” said Engr. Ismaila.

“This project represents a significant step in our efforts to modernize Katsina’s water infrastructure,” said Governor Radda. “By utilizing world-class equipment and expertise, we are not just fixing a problem, but investing in the long-term health and well-being of our citizens.”

Installation of the new equipment is scheduled to commence next week. The Radda administration is also considering similar rehabilitation projects for other treatment plants across the state, including Funtua Gwaigwaye, Sabke in Daura, and Malumfashi.

This project marks the first major rehabilitation of the Ajiwa Water Treatment Plant since 1994, signifying the Radda administration’s proactive approach to infrastructure development and public health.
