Several helicopter operators are considering rejecting the newly introduced $300 landing fee imposed by the Federal Government through its concessionaire, NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited.
According to sources, concerns have been raised by some operators regarding the imposition of the new fee. Additionally, there are indications that they may align with the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to oppose NAEBI’s efforts in collecting the levy.
While some operators have begun complying with the payment, others are exploring avenues to persuade the federal government to reconsider the levy.
The division among helicopter operators has led to a situation where some are paying the fee, while others are attempting to thwart the initiative. Some operators are reportedly seeking support from prominent airline owners to influence the Minister and generate negative media coverage to undermine the levy.
However, questions have been raised about the involvement of airline owners in this matter, as helicopter operators are perceived as merely intermediaries in the collection process.
Recently, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, issued a directive urging helicopter operators to comply with the levy, warning of sanctions for non-compliance. The Ministry emphasized its commitment to enforcing compliance and pursuing remedies against violators.
The situation underscores a potential standoff between helicopter operators and the Federal Government, with both sides adamant in their positions regarding the controversial landing fee.
