There are indications that non negotiation between Nasarawa state Government and the striking organized labour may have opened another channel for more strikes as the joint union of tertiary institutions embarked on fresh industrial action.
In their meeting held at the state polytechnic Lafia,the joint union issued a strike notice to all its members on February 4 2016 to go on strike with immediate effect.
Leaders of the Union resolved that they have no option than to reopen their suspended strike which was suspended due to inventions by Traditional Rulers and state assembly house committee on education, science and technology last year.
The Union chairman comrade Ariks Bashayi said that all efforts for government to implement agreements reached met resistance because the state Government does not appear serious about their welfare.
He called on all tertiary institutions staffers to stay off their places of work and wait for further directives in due course.
It would be recalled that the Amalgamated Union of tertiary institutions issued a seven days warning strike on November 7 2015 urging government to give them their entitlements among other pressing demands that will better their teaching conditions compared with their colleques in other states of the nation.
In a related development Nigeria Labour Congress Nasarawa state chapter has embarked on indefinite strike action over a week now and all moves to revert the situation met a brickwall.
Instead of negotiating,on how to implement their demands, it has threatened to review workers salaries .
We also gathered that Traditional rulers, government representative and labour leaders converged on at the guest house of Emir of Lafia and chairman councils of chiefs to fine tune ways of ending the strike but the meeting ended without head way.
In an interview the state chairman of labour, comrade Abdullahi Adeka confirmed that no going back on the strike until all their 21demands are met before they will resume to their respective duty post.
