House of Reps C”ttree Pledges Readiness to End Terrorism Financing, Money laundering in Nigeria

The House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes has reiterated it readiness to end all forms of terrorism financing as well as Money Laundering in the country.
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Ginger Obinna made the pledge on Tuesday, during his Committee inaugural meeting held at National Assembly Complex, in Abuja.
The Chairman further used the opportunity of his inaugural meeting to threaten all enablers of financial crimes and criminalities in the country, promising to activate available legal strategies against them in a short while.
The panel also affirmed it confidence and capabilities to tackle the innate challenges of financial crimes in Nigeria even as it promised to ensure that corruption is not business as usual in the country.
Earlier during his presentation, the chairman also pledged readiness to roll out basic strategies and policies that are necessary to safeguard the nation’s financial system for the betterment of Nigeria and her citizens.
To his colleagues and fellow lawmaker the chairman gave this charge: “Your dedication to our shared cause, your tireless efforts in the pursuit of justice, and your resilience in the face of complex challenges which includes financial crimes and criminalities, illicit financial flow, money laundry, terrorism financing, advance fee fraud, 419, Cybercrimes are some of the menace that are bedeviling our nation today.
“With Your collective wisdom, collaboration, and diverse perspectives have been invaluable in shaping the strategies and policies that are necessary to safeguard our financial system and uphold the rule of law.
“It is your unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness, and accountability that has set the highest standards for our committee’s
work.
“As we move forward in our mission, I have full confidence that our combined efforts will continue to make a profound impact on our society. Together, we will ensure that those who engage in financial crimes and criminalities are held accountable and brought to justices
He said the Committee in preparation for the commencement of activities will cover jurisdictions, which he listed as: “There shall be a committee on Financial Crime consisting of not more than 40 members constituted at the commencement of the life of the house The committee jurisdiction shall cover an oversight of the Economy and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). “Monitoring the agencies involved in the detection of Financial Crimes, money Laundering and advance fee
fraud.
“Oversight of all organizations, agencies and institutions established by law on Financial Crimes and also annual budget estimate.
Continuing, he added: “I look forward to the the future with optimism, knowing that we have the privilege of Serving alongside such an exceptional group of individuals. our dedication to this noble cause is a source of inspiration to us all, and I am proud to be a part of this remarkable team.
Conclusively, the lawmakers at the committee pledged to get everyone involve to enable them run an effective open door policy.

Pius Akutah’s Alleged Fraud at Nigerian Shippers Council Uncovered
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
