Ilorin International Aviation College to commence PGD programme

Plans are afoot by the International Aviation College, Ilorin, to commence Postgraduate Diploma courses in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering in collaboration with the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.

The Chairman, Governing Council of the College, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Gobir, who is also the Sarkin Gobir of Ilorin, disclosed this in his office while receiving members of the Ilorin Emirate Durbar Committee led by its Chairman, Engineer Suleiman Yahaya Alapansanpa.

Gobir said all the courses to be run by the College would be supervised by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) postgraduate in aircraft maintenance licence, while the NBTE would concurrently supervise the ND/HND programmes.

According to him, such programmes and other courses would not only improve the capacities and expertise of the students but also improve the financial situation of the College to stand on its own without waiting for government subventions.

Gobir, who is also a pilot, disclosed that he met on ground on his appointment as Chairman, Governing Council of the College, various challenges but said that with the commitment and support of staff, he was able to identify areas to focus on, adding that they have all succeeded in turning around the administrative and academic activities of the College.

Also speaking, the Rector of the International Aviation College, Engineer Benedict Adeyileka, said the Chairman has been of tremendous support to the College since he assumed duty, more so with his versatile experience in the aviation industry.

Engineer Benedict added that the Aviation College is working towards producing world class pilots who can be employed in any aviation industry in the world.

According to him, the Aviation College is the only one owned by a state government in the entire West African Region and commended the initiative of the state government for establishing the institution.

Also speaking the leader of the visiting team, Engineer Suleiman Yahaya Alapasanpa, the Danmasani of Ilorin , who was represented by Ambassador Sheikh Usman AbdulAzeez, implored the Chairman to see his appointment as an act of God, urging him to continue to work assiduously to take the College to greater heights.

Ambassador Usman AbdulAzeez, who was a former President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendant Progressive Union, also charged all sons and daughters of the Emirate to be proactive in their chosen careers and always contribute their quota in all ramifications to the overall development of the Emirate and the state at large.

Others who spoke during the visit were Dr. Ibrahim Jawondo, Alhaji Mumini Abdulmalik, a Retired Assistant Controller General of Immigration Services, Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahim, Barrister I.B. Ayegbami, Hajia Aishat Iyabo Buhari, Mallam Mohammad Jamiu Abdulganiyu and the Chairman of the Media sub-publicity committee of Durbar ,Alhaji Mohammed Tunde Akanbi, who lauded the harmonious working relationship between the board and the management of the Aviation College.

They advised the chairman governing council to use his international influence to uplift the college, while also urging the state government to sponsor students from the state to the college, noting that it would be very difficult for an average Nigerian to send their children or wards to the institution for training as a pilot.

The visiting team were later taken round the facilities of the College.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
