Imo PDP Disputes Tribunal’s Decision, Vows to Reclaim Ugochinyere and Okeke’s Seats
The Imo State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently opposed the recent nullification of the elections of Barr. Ikenga Ugochinyere and Hon. Jonas Okeke, who represented Ideato North/South and Okigwe South federal constituencies in the House of Representatives. This decision was handed down by the Imo State National/State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal situated in Mararraba, Nasarawa State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mazi Emenike Nmeregini, the party asserted that its two members had secured resounding victories in the National Assembly elections held on February 25.
Furthermore, the PDP decried these rulings as setbacks and pledged to challenge them at the Court of Appeal.
Nmeregini expressed the party’s dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s verdicts, characterizing them as highly condemnable and regrettable. He emphasized that the two proactive lawmakers had decisively won their respective constituencies’ elections, and the tribunal’s decisions had left a bitter taste in the mouths of the electorate.
The party criticized the tribunal for basing its judgments on pre-election matters that had already been dismissed by competent courts and for addressing internal party affairs without proper jurisdiction. They regarded these verdicts as lacking in transparency and logic.
The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party viewed these separate judgments as detrimental to the nation’s judiciary and categorically rejected them. The party pledged to steadfastly oppose the tribunal’s stance until it reversed the judgments, which they believed were undermining the integrity of the justice system.
The PDP affirmed its trust in the judiciary and hoped for a fair resolution of these cases through the appeals process. They also called upon their aggrieved members and constituents in Ideato North/South and Okigwe South Federal Constituencies to remain patient, as they believed that justice would eventually prevail.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
