IPMAN Zonal Chairman Warns Against Fresh Crisis In Benin Depot

By Ikhili Monday EBALU, Benin City

The Zonal Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Markets Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), (Edo/Delta), Chief Solomon Ogbewe has expressed fears over fresh crisis in the Edo state IPMAN following alleged failure by the state leadership led by Comrade Johnbull Asemota to remit dues and flagrant disregard of the constitution of the association.

According to him, “I have been receiving petitions from members of IPMAN in the state over complaints that the IPMAN in Edo state has not remitted dues to the zone and National leadership and they have not been carrying other members along as regards the running of the IPMAN in the state.

“And they complained that our members here are not getting products daily for distribution which is not good for the association. So I want to appeal to the Benin depot chief not to have any dealings with the IPMAN leadership in Edo state until some of these issues are resolved.

“I have reported the matter to the National leadership and they have given directive. I have called the IPMAN chairman in Edo to advise him on the need to avoid crisis in the state IPMAN but he has kept deaf ears. There are even certain issues I have asked him we should take care after our election following the support and prayers of the palace we received before the election from the palace of the Oba of Benin which he has not done.

“I want to appeal to our members to remain calm and avoid comments capable of causing crisis in Edo state IPMAN. It is my believe that the contending issues will be sorted out” he stated.

When contacted, the Chairman of IPMAN, Benin Depot, Comrade Johnbull Asemota denied the allegation as he said that operation of the distribution of Petroleum products was yet to commence.

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that the Association recently conducted their election that brought in the present leadership of the association after the Palace mediated on the protracted crisis that almost brought them to extinct.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
