Kwara Gov presents staffs of office to two new monarchs

Traditional institutions are great enablers of cohesion, peace, and socioeconomic and political development in the society, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said on Monday.
Presenting staffs of office to the new Olupako of Share Oba Haruna Olawale Suleiman and the new Olusin of Ijara-Isin Oba Ajibola Ademola Julius, AbdulRazaq urged traditional institutions to join government’s campaigns to mobilise the citizenry for peace, unity, and development of not just Kwara but of the country.
The Governor said his administration is committed to its pledge to honour and support traditional institutions at all times, adding that the government’s relationship with the institution is guided by fairness and respect.
“As an administration, we followed the rules and respected the traditions and culture of the affected communities in the emergence of the new monarchs without undue interference. To the glory of God, their royal highnesses are the popular choices of their people. I therefore congratulate them, their families, the kingmakers, critical stakeholders, and the people of their communities,” he said, referring to the process that threw up the new monarchs.
“No one is crowned except it is ordained by Almighty Allah. Your Royal Highnesses should therefore be grateful to Allah for honouring you with the thrones of your forebears. I urge you to extend olive branches to all quarters.”
AbdulRazaq meanwhile has urged the monarchs to work with everyone under their domains and outside to promote peace and development.
“I also appeal to all relevant stakeholders to work with the new monarchs,” he added.
The commissioner for local government, chieftaincy affairs and community development, Architect Aliyu Saifuddeen, for his part, urged the monarchs to use their positions to promote peace, tranquility and progress among their subjects.
“There is no doubt that royal fathers are well respected and highly revered. They are veritable tools for grassroots mobilisation. They are the custodians of tradition and culture for people and they are always available to assist their subjects in the resolution of conflicts,” he said.
“I wish to call on the new Obas to always mobilise their subjects for government activities, programmes and projects to ensure overall development of the communities.”
Olupako of Share, Oba Haruna Olawale Suleiman, who spoke on behalf of the monarchs, expressed gratitude to the governor and the state traditional council for the appointment and pledged loyalty and support to all government policies
“We acknowledge the effort of your government in maintaining peace and harmony in our dear state. We pledge our loyalty to lend our voice to all your laudable projects going on across the three senatorial districts. All your policies shall be supported with open heart,” he said.
Representatives of the two communities Gabriel Jimoh (Share) and Alh Sule Ibiwoye (Ijara-Isin) acknowledged that the selection processes were transparent and devoid of unresolvable issues, and prayed for peaceful reigns in their domains.

London Property Dispute Exposes Alleged Corruption, Forgery by Nigerian Politician and Lawyer

A recent judgment by the UK’s First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) has shed light on a complex web of alleged corruption and forgery involving a Nigerian politician and a senior lawyer. The case revolves around a disputed property in North London, valued at 79 Randall Avenue.
The property was purchased in 1993 under the name “Tali Shani,” which is allegedly an alias for late General Jeremiah Useni, a powerful member of the Abacha regime. Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, claimed the property was gifted to him by “Mr. Tali Shani” in 2021 as payment for legal services. However, the tribunal dismissed this claim, describing it as “fabricated” and “fraudulent.”
The tribunal’s ruling highlights the alleged involvement of Ozekhome and his associates in fabricating documents, including a Nigerian passport, National Identification Number (NIN), and Tax Identification Number (TIN). The NIN was reportedly created remotely from Monaco using a non-compliant photograph and bypassing biometric requirements ¹.
The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate Ozekhome and others over alleged fraud, forgery, and unlawful attempt to acquire the London property. The ICPC has launched an investigation, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has also taken notice of the case ²

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has resigned from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet amid a growing controversy surrounding his academic credentials.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed Nnaji’s resignation in a statement issued late Tuesday.
Nnaji’s exit follows mounting allegations that his academic certificates were forged. Investigations revealed that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), disowned the Bachelor of Science degree he claimed to possess, stating that he never completed his studies at the institution and was therefore not issued any certificate.
According to UNN Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simon U. Ortuanya, Nnaji was admitted in 1981 but failed to meet the requirements for graduation.
In a related development, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) reportedly disowned the certificate of national service presented by Nnaji, describing it as fake.
His resignation marks the latest in a series of controversies to hit the Tinubu administration over questions of integrity and accountability among public officials.
