Kwara House Charges Security Agencies To Rise Against Ritual Killings

The Kwara State House of Assembly has called on the State Commissioner of Police and hierarchies of other security agencies to come up with strategies that would curb incessant kidnapping and ritual killings in the state.
The House made the call following a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised by the Leader of the House, Hon Hassan Oyeleke on the “Need to curb incessant kidnapping in Kwara state”.
Reading the resolutions of the House, the Deputy Speaker, Elder Matthew Okedare, expressed displeasure over the spate of ritual killings in the state and insisted that Stakeholders must brace up to curb the trend before it got out hand.
The Legislature equally called on public transporters in the state to ensure that their vehicles were provided with genuine identification numbers for easy identification in order to address the ugly trend.
The House enjoined members of the public to be more security conscious and alert security agencies of any suspected cases in order to rid the state of kidnapping and ritual killings.
The Leader of the House, Dr. Hassan Oyeleke, had while raising the Matter of Urgent Public Importance, narrated the ordeal of a victim and emphasised the need for all stakeholders to play greater roles in addressing the menace.
Other Members who spoke on the Matter advocated the review of the existing law, collaboration between government and the people and increased enlightenment in tackling the menace.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
