Kwara Poly Debunks Hike In Tuition Fee

The management of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has debunked insinuations making the round of hike in the tuition fee of the institution.
The institution was alleged to have introduced a new tuition fee of N75, 000 as against N58, 000 it charged the students last session.
But both the state government and the management of the Polytechnic have denied that there was a change in the tuition fee, while condemning the brain behind the rumour and those allegedly inciting students to cause crisis over the matter.
The position of the authorities was made known on when the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Babatunde Ajeigbe, alongside the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Moses Salami briefed journalists on the matter.
Representatives of the students at the briefing also corroborated the stance of the authorities.
Ajeigbe, who said that a government delegation led by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Amina Mohammed met with management of the institution over the matter, explained that their findings showed that it was just a rumour spread by social media and about which some people in the state were making mischief.
He said that there was no increase of fee for the returning students who are now either HND 2 or ND 2 students and this was corroborated by an HND 2 student at the meeting who said he paid the same N58, 000 he paid last session when he was an HND 1 student.
Ajeigbe however explained that the institution has not yet determined what tuition fee of students with fresh admission for ND 1and HND 1 would be, saying this would be determined by realities on ground.
The institution’s Registrar who expatiated on this said though the school has spent more money on accreditation of its courses this year it would not allow that to be a major influence on the amount to be paid by fresh students.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
