Lagbaja, has expressed serious concern over the increasing cases of drug abuse among soldiers deployed in various operational theatres.
Speaking through Brig. Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, acting General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, during a seminar on “Optimising Warrior Ethos in the Nigerian Army: A Panacea for Operational Effectiveness” in Sokoto, Lagbaja highlighted the adverse impact of substance abuse on combat readiness and effectiveness.
The seminar, organized by the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation, focused on enhancing the warrior ethos among personnel. Lagbaja emphasized the importance of addressing this issue, as it poses a significant threat to the operational success of the military.
“I can assure you of my continuous support to provide the much-needed logistics and guidance required for the execution of your tasks,” he stated. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to reviewing and improving its strategies to address both kinetic and non-kinetic challenges.
Lagbaja also pointed out that the seminar would educate participants on the threats of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear terrorism in Nigeria. He urged commanders to develop innovative approaches to enhance man management and battle readiness, aligning with his command philosophy for the Nigerian Army.
The Chief of Transformation and Innovation, Maj. Gen. Zakari Abubakar, assured that the department would remain committed to optimizing the leadership capacity of junior and middle-class officers while intensifying efforts to curb drug abuse among troops.
