“LASU Vice-Chancellor Advocates for Responsible Behavior Among Students”

Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has called on both new and returning students to actively support the university’s management by refraining from indecent dressing, cultism, drug abuse, and all other forms of vices.
During her welcome address for the 2023/2024 academic session on Monday, Olatunji-Bello urged students to report any form of harassment to the appropriate university offices. She emphasized the management’s commitment to creating an environment where students can pursue their goals without fear or intimidation.
“We assure new and old students of management’s commitment and support to enable them to thrive in the right environment provided. I am particularly excited to welcome our new students to the best state university in Nigeria. I congratulate you on gaining admission into our prestigious institution and assure you that you are in the best state university,” stated Olatunji-Bello.
Referring to the students as “world-class students,” she encouraged them to make hard work their guiding principle as they embark on the new academic session. Olatunji-Bello emphasized the importance of academic pursuit as the primary assignment on campus and pledged continued administrative support to provide the right environment for students to thrive.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
